History

  • In 1972, Walter Madsen purchased Fimbel Door Co. on Rte 55 in Poughkeepsie. The company was renamed Madsen Overhead Doors, and consisted of one salesman, one secretary, three installers, and three trucks.
  • The company name was changed to Dutchess Overhead Doors in 1973. As the company grew, Walter retired and his son Daniel W. Madsen assumed oversight responsibility.
  • In 1977, Dutchess Overhead Doors became an authorized Raynor dealer and grew into a six-truck operation.
  • By 1980, Dutchess Overhead Doors was bursting at the seams. To add space, we moved to the old Roe Movers building at 40 Arlington Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Renovations to the building included a new showroom, service, parts department, loading dock, and a larger warehouse.
  • By the late 1980's, Dutchess had grown to 30-plus employees. New equipment was acquired, including fork and lift trucks, delivery trucks, and a two-way radio system enabling constant communication with the service department.
  • A new warehouse was added in the early 1990's.
  • In 2001, an in-house training school was built to further the technician's knowledge on garage door installations.
  • In 2002, GPS was added to all trucks for more efficient navigation.

Today, Dutchess and Raynor continue to remain industry leaders through the advancement of overhead door design, manufacture, sales, and service.
